The initiative is led by African organizations, targeting Africa and with strong collaborative links with international actors in the African continent and other international initiatives outside it.

The Africa Biochar Partnership is coordinated by a Steering Committee. This is assisted by an Advisory Board, a Secretariat, and is participated by National Associations. The highest decision making body is the Steering Committee, that is supported by the Advisory Board. Membership to the Partnership is open to individuals and institutions interested to advance the development of biochar systems in Africa.
